There are many ways to reset Mikrotik based on their device itself. But, in this case I would only discuss about resetting via button which I believe it’s the easiest way to do.

Old architecture of MikroTik (powerpc, x86, mipsbe or mipsle) use following combination to reset via button.

  1. Unplug your power cable
  2. Push and hold reset button while you plugging the power cable
  3. LED will be flashing statically, then blinking
  4. Once LED became off, release the reset button

That’s it. But there is a quite different step for newer architecture, smips. Most of the people doesn’t know this trick and used above method would usually lead the device into not responding state, even required to be net installed.

Here is the differences;

  1. Unplug your power cable
  2. Push and hold reset button while you plugging the power cable
  3. LED will be flashing statically, then blinking
  4. Once LED became statically again, then you have to immediately release the reset button
  5. If you wait until LED off, then you should found your device became not accessible. Net instal is required however.

Hope this helps.
