Mostly people don&#8217;t understand why we must to setup this important plugin. In accordance to VMware KB 340: &#8220;VMware Tools is a suite of utilities that enhances the performance of the virtual machines guest operating system and improves management of the virtual machine&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By installing VMware tools, we can eliminates also improves these issue:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Low video resolution<\/li>\n<li>Inadequate color depth<\/li>\n<li>Incorrect display of network speed<\/li>\n<li>Restricted movement of the mouse<\/li>\n<li>Inability to copy and paste and drag-and-drop files<\/li>\n<li>Missing sound<\/li>\n<li>Provides the ability to take quiesced snapshots of the guest OS<\/li>\n<li>Synchronizes the time in the guest operating system with the time on the host<\/li>\n<li>Provides support for guest-bound calls created with the VMware VIX API<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Basically if we created a VM which not provided GUI, this could be not helpful poin. But, afterall i always setup VMware tools whenever i&#8217;ve done installed new VM for whatever OS.<\/p>\n<p>Then i&#8217;ll show you how to install VMware tools on Linux environment. This steps should work on any distro, particularly just different on a few command. For this scenario i used distro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suse.com\/products\/server\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SLES<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First, you must to assign command &#8220;install vmware tools&#8221; from your vClient\/vCenter\/Workstation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adf.ly\/1TsCCp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2045 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rachmadona.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/vmware-tools-install1-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"vmware tools install1\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Login into your Linux terminal using root privileged and let&#8217;s make virtual cdrom for mounting image VMware tools.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>root:~#mkdir \/mnt\/cdrom<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mount the image into your virtual cdrom.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>root:~#mount \/dev\/cdrom \/mnt\/cdrom or mount \/dev\/sr0 \/mnt\/cdrom<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adf.ly\/1TsCEa\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2046 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rachmadona.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/vmware-tools-install2-300x46.jpg\" alt=\"vmware tools install2\" width=\"300\" height=\"46\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Go to folder \/mnt\/cdrom and show content. It should consist file VMwareTools-x.x.x-xxxx.tar.gz.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s extract that file into temporary folder and start to install it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>cd \/mnt\/cdrom<\/p>\n<p>tar xzvf \/mnt\/cdrom\/VMwareTools-x.x.x-xxxx.tar.gz -C \/tmp\/<\/p>\n<p>cd \/tmp\/vmware-tools-distrib\/<\/p>\n<p>sudo .\/vmware-install.pl -d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note: The -d parameter means defaults, so you don\u2019t get all those prompts for default paths and so on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adf.ly\/1TsCHP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2047 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rachmadona.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/vmware-tools-install3-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"vmware tools install3\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wait for installation finish and reboot your OS after that.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve back after reboot let&#8217;s check the service whether it is running or not.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>ps aux | grep -i vmware<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>if it shows &#8220;\/usr\/sbin\/vmtoolsd&#8221; process, mean you have successfully install VMware tools.<\/p>\n<p>**If you are getting &#8220;permission denied&#8221; during the installation, please use following command instead &#8221; perl vmware-install.pl&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last but not least, one big point after create VM is install VMware tools.
